While Toyota/Scion of Morristown has sold and serviced new and used Toyota vehicles in the community for over three decades, its roots in the automobile retail industry goes back to 1962 when its founder, Arnold L. Brauer opened a Ford dealership in Madison. In fact it could be said that Arnold was born into the business with his father opening a Graham Paige dealership in 1929, the year Arnold was born. Fondly recalling many Saturdays during his youth observing and helping Dad in the showroom, Arnold refers to those experiences as a kind of "baptism of fire."
Arnold, who earned an economics degree from Columbia University, also found the lure of the auto industry too appealing and like his father before him, opened the doors to his first showroom at the age of 33. He purchased his first Toyota franchise some 14 years later. According to Arnold, the keys to success is "selling and servicing the best vehicles made and just as important, giving back to the community that supports your business."
It is Arnold's profound belief in the product, commitment to customer service and sense of community involvement that has perpetuated his long run of success. Arnold has sponsored and supported a number of local programs. He was instrumental in re-opening the Morristown Community Theater and in cooperation with Morristown Memorial Hospital's "Laugh Well" program spearheaded fundraising events that included performances from such prominent entertainers as Robert Klein, The Smothers Brothers, Joy Behar and Venessa Williams.
The many other charities and sponsorships he has participated in include the DEBORAH Hospital Foundation which raises money to care for patients afflicted with tuberculosis and other cardiac, pulmonary and vascular diseases. He has also been a staunch supporter of many USMC sponsored charities which include the annual "Toys for Tots" campaigns and Marine Corps/Law Enforcement programs. "Jazzfest," "Little League Baseball," "Youth Soccer," and WDHA's "Kids Who Rock," have also benefited from his many sponsorships over the years.
These days Arnold is retired and the daily working operations of the dealership is entrusted to his son Jonathan Brauer, the third generation auto retailer in the family tree. Jonathan is committed to ensuring that product excellence, community involvement and customer loyalty, the foundation Arnold built all those years ago, continue to be the credo by which Toyota/Scion of Morristown conducts business.
